The Olymp Sports Complex in Myski is being renovated with the support of the Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine

The company has allotted 20 million rubles to modernize the city’s main sports venue

The building’s interior will be remodeled and renovated, its utility systems will be replaced, and it will receive a new roof and façade. Work has already begun. The opening ceremony for the renovated sports facility will take place in 2021.

“The company decided to mark Kuzbass’s 300th anniversary by renovating Olymp. We and the head of the Myskovskiy Urban District thought it would be a very good gift for Myskovites,” said Andrey Borshchevich, general director of the Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine.

Olymp is a landmark in the town. More than one world and European champion has been born within its walls. Weightlifting champion Alexander Voronin trained here. Apart from adults, about 600 young athletes presently train here in a sports school consisting of more than 10 sections.

Alexander Tishin, director of the district’s A. Voronin Sports School, explained that all major sports are held here, but the building has long been in need of repair. It hasn’t undergone a major renovation in 44 years.

Reconstruction of the Olymp Sports Complex is being carried out on top of the commitments the Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine has already made as part of the socio-economic partnership agreement it has signed with the Myskovskiy Urban District.

The coal mining company actively participates in carrying out socially beneficial projects in the town. This year, School No. 3 and the Gennady Neunyvakhin Center for Creative Development and Humanitarian Education have been renovated, and work is underway at the city library and the Jubilee Cultural Center. The mine also supports the indigenous Shors people and helps the Kuznetskiy Alatau EcoCenter.
