Russia’s 1st SANY Hybrid Dump Truck Begins Work at Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine

The new vehicle with a load capacity of 150 tonnes is simultaneously powered by a diesel engine and electric batteries. The vehicle operates in a mixed mode – two electric motors, each with a capacity of 2,600 kW/h, are simultaneously powered by high-voltage batteries with a capacity of 380 kW/h and two diesel engines with a rated power of 565 horsepower.

When the truck is braking, its electric motor works as a generator, replenishing the energy in the battery. Thus, it is able to charge itself when descending. If necessary, the batteries can be quickly charged at Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine thanks to a new electrical substation at the site.

The innovative system will significantly reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere, while reducing the cost of operating the dump truck by saving fuel.

In December 2022, a Chinese delegation consisting of six people arrived at the Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine. The engineering and technical staff took part in testing the equipment and helped in adjusting the settings of the systems to ensure proper operation of the dump truck.

These dump trucks are equipped with a variety of digital systems and sensors, as well as outdoor surveillance cameras and other modern equipment that makes the operation of heavy-duty vehicles safe, efficient, and comfortable.

“We are keeping up with the times: the company is developing and production growing. That is why new modern equipment is being introduced at the enterprise. The commissioning of a hybrid dump truck at the Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine is a point of pride for us. We will be pioneers in employing such equipment, which I am sure will demonstrate excellent production results,” noted Ruslan Minibayev, Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine’s General Director.

The new transport vehicle was provided to the Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine by Service Plus. It is currently the only dump truck of its kind in Russia.
