Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine will plant 260,000 Trees on Forest Fund Land

The Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine will plant 260,000 seedlings in the Novokuznetsk Municipal District. By the end of 2024, a new coniferous forest will appear on an area of 84.5 hectares. Planting will be carried out as part of compensatory reforestation.

One-year-old Siberian spruce trees grown from seeds in greenhouses were chosen for planting, as they have a high survival rate and continue to grow well even in a severe continental climate.

The Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine launched its compensatory reforestation program in 2020. Since then, it has planted more than 1.5 million coniferous trees on the lands of the Kuzbass Forest Fund.

Compensatory reforestation is part of the environmental policy of the regions provided for by the national Ecology project. According to the Forest Code of the Russian Federation, enterprises engaged in industrial activities are obliged to reforest an area equal to the area of forest lands that they have exploited for business purposes.
