Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine Funds 5th Shor Language Textbook
The author's team of philologists, consisting of Elena Tchaikovsky, Natalia Chepsarakova, and Lyubov Arbachakova, has completed work on the manuscript of a Shor language textbook for the fifth grade. Editors and illustrators at the Prosveshchenie publishing house are currently working on the future textbook. At the end of the year, 1,000 copies will be printed in St. Petersburg and transferred to schools in Kuzbass.
With the release of the textbook, which contains exercises for phonetics, spelling, and vocabulary, Shor language teachers will also receive methodological recommendations on the peculiarities of teaching the subject.
According to Nikita Shulbaev, president of the 'Shoria' association of Shor people, the publication of this textbook will be a truly significant event for this small indigenous people of Kuzbass:
"I would like to express great gratitude to our long-time friend, the Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine, for making it possible for Shor children to learn their native language and speak it again. I hope that the people's shared dream will come true one day, and colorful Shor speech will once again be heard in villages and settlements, not only from grandfathers, but also their grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they speak the language of their ancestors."
The Kiyzassky Open-Pit Mine has been funding this long-term project to publish Shor language textbooks since 2020. The first primer was released four years ago, and textbooks for grades 2 to 4 were published in subsequent years. The textbooks comply with the state educational standard (FGOS), which means that the Shor language can be included in the list of compulsory subjects for study. The new textbooks are actively used in native language lessons given in Kemerovo Region schools.
